Westmoreland (WIBW) - Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat says a man who took his own life after leading authorities on a chase was 23-year old Brian Resser of rural Louisville.

Riat says his office got a call just before midnight of a man driving a Pontiac Grand Prix who was possibly armed and making suicidal threats. Authorities spotted the car about 3:30 am Tuesday in Manhattan and tried to pull the man over.

Riat says the chase went on Highway 24 to Wamego, then north on K-99 to Westmoreland. There, he says deputies used stop sticks to stop the car. When they approached, they found Resser dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Brian was a dear friend of all of us in Wamego (where he grew up). He leaves behind two children and a wonderful wife. On behalf of the Red Raider Class of 2005, please join us in our prayers for his family as they mourn this difficult loss.
