ALMA, Kan. (AP) _ Federal inspectors plan to scour a Wabaunsee County bombing range for unexploded bombs.

Wabaunsee Precision Bombing Range No. 2 near Alma was used during World War II to train pilots and bomber crews. Similar searches at bombing ranges in Osage County and Lyon County found evidence of practice bombs, which carry small explosive charges.

Inspectors say they don't believe they'll find any explosives when they complete the inspection of Wabaunsee in November. But they are advising hikers, hunters and others in the area to stay away from anything resembling a bomb.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is inspecting 962 sites across the country and has completed inspections at nine Kansas sites already.

Kansas featured 19 bombing and gunnery ranges during World War II.
