BREHNAM TOWNSHIP, Kan. (AP) _ The hunt almost four years ago for a meteorite in western Kansas is one of the subjects of a Science Channel special premiering Sunday night.
Steve Arnold and Phil Mani of San Antonio started searching for the space rocks in Kiowa County in September 2005. Using off-road vehicles and giant metal detectors, they found a 1,400-pound meteorite seven feet under a wheat field near Brenham Township.
Kiowa County's meteorites are world-famous for their gemlike qualities when cut. They likely fell centuries ago, breaking into fragments.
Arnold and meteorite collector Geoffrey Notkin filmed their portions of ``Meteorite Men'' in October. Other segments were filed in Arizona.
The show, which could become an ongoing program, airs Sunday at 8 p.m.
