Manhattan, KS - Some Manhattan elementary school students tossed around a lesson they could really eat up Wednesday.
Life Skills Instructor Paula Gray from King Arthur Flour Company visited Frank Bergman Elementary School and the Manhattan Catholic Schools to teach the art of bread baking.
Gray says the program stresses skills like reading, math and planning, along with a sense of community. The students take home ingredients to bake bread with their families. They then bring back one of the loaves to be donated to a local food pantry.
The program also has a nutritional component, with whole grains incorporated into the lessons.
The King Arthur program visits school across the country. They've taught more than 85,000 students how to bake bread over the past decade.
