TOPEKA, Kan. -- If tax forms make your blood pressure spike - and your income is under $90,000 - then you're in luck.
Together, the VITA program and AARP's Tax-Aide program make the largest free tax assistance center in the Midwest. People of all ages can receive help with their income taxes.
More than 100 trained volunteers offer income tax assistance, and in 2008, Shawnee County saved $2 million in tax preparation return forms.
And now is the time to get help, according to VITA organizer Cindy Evans. She said the lines will only get longer as the April 15th deadline approaches.
VITA, or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, is a program through K-State Research & Extension that offers counsel Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Docking State Office Building downtown.
The AARP program offers more than 10 different sites throughout the week, including a Saturday site at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.
For a full list of times and locations, go to www.shawnee.ksu.edu.
Local residents are also encouraged to attend the "Super Saturday" tax event on Saturday, March 21st at 4 Townsite Plaza from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
