Plans to reconstruct the Willard bridge west of Topeka are underway.
Shawnee County Public Works director Tom Vlach says he'll ask county commissioners Thursday morning to authorize phase one of the preliminary design for the bridge.

The goal is to replace it. The Willard bridge was built in 1955. Vlach says since then, there are more vehicles and larger-sized vehicles on the roads.

Vlach says there is no danger for anyone who travels the bridge, the construction is just precautionary.
