Even though technology allows us to get in touch no matter where we are or what we're doing, it doesn't always mean we should. The Kansas Highway Patrol says using a cell phone while driving is just a bad idea.

Whether its for business or pleasure, it isn't hard to find someone gabbing on their cell phone while driving. "I don't make a lot of personal calls while I'm at work," says Debbie Griffith. "So as soon as 5:00 p.m. hits, I'm on the cell phone in my car to find out what I missed."

"It only takes one thing to go wrong and to crash," says Trooper Timothy McCool.

In 2007, 350 people crashed on Kansas highways because of a cell phone distraction. In those, 161 people suffered injuries and seven people died.

So McCool says if you have to be on the phone, pull over. Another good option - just let it go to voicemail.

If you think the 2 seconds it takes to take your eyes off the road and answer your cell phone isn't a problem, think again. If you're going 60 miles an hour, you'll travel 60 yards or from the 50 yard line to the goal post, in just 2 seconds.

"Twenty years ago we didn't have cell phones and we got along just fine, didn't we?" says McCool.

Hey people, just stay off the phone when your driving the car. It's that simple!

My phone is next to mein my purse within reach that I can get it without having to take my eyes off of the road. I bring it up so that I can read it without having to look down or around to see who it is. If it's someone that I need to speak with immediately....I will pull over ( when it's feasible ) and call them back. Other wise if it's someone that I determine I can call back at a later time ( when I get home )then I will do so. This method may not work for others but it works for me and MY WORLD STILL SPINS THE SAME whether I miss a call or not!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it *he he he*

The funny thing is PRNJE is that you say that you let voicemail pick it up depending on who it is. Well hmmmm what is written above is talking a lot about looking for your phone while driving or grabbing it to answer it. I guess the logical and common sense thing is to not even look at it while you are driving, according to you that is....

Amen Justin.. I count count the times I have seen Highway Patrol and Police on Cell phones. Along with all the other illegal stuff they pull while On Duty.. Or off in TPD's case.. Whats the saying about Glass House and throwing stones!!!

In one year, 161 injured, 7 dead. That says it all. You can whine and insist you're going to have your way but you can't argue with those numbers. Was any one of those 7 dead peoples' lives worth the stupid, selfish, and childish phone call? If you don't care, you need to grow up. You're not mature enough to own a cell phone... or a drive a car.

I'd say BOOK'EM DANO!! I have a cell phone but used for emergencies and for my work. When a call comes in while I'm driving I will either pull over or let it go to voicemail depending on whom it is. That's the only and logical common sense thing to do but I guess COMMON SENSE flew out the window with this generation but not with us OLD SCHOOLERS!!! *winks*

Apparently society didn't have a life prior to modern technology but guess what......WE DID HAVE A LIFE!!! ALL OF US HAD A LIFE!!! Unfortunately life apparently was toooooo much for some so that is why they depend on the cell phone plus the attitude nowadays is "IT'S ALLLLLLLLL ABOUT ME!!!! ( no pun intended on Toby Keith's song *S* ) People are rude and inconsiderate while they are on their cell phones. They don't care who what when or where they are for they feel it's all about them. My daughter worked at SUBWAY and they had a sign that read " If you're on your cell phone.....we will wait on the customers until you are finished with your conversation " I'd like to see that implemented in ALLLLLLLLLLLLL businesses!! Here's another prime example of our great society...I was on I-70 by Junction City when a car comes flying by me not keeping the car steady in the lane and why????.HE WAS TEXTING ON HIS BLACKEBERRY!!!! There was several times he'd come into my lane almost hitting me!!
