BURLINGTON, Kan. (AP) _ Federal regulators have renewed the operating license for Kansas' only nuclear power plant through 2045.

The Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station near Burlington received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, extending the license that was originally scheduled to expire in 2025.

Wolf Creek submitted its renewal application in September 2006. Factors determining whether to extend the license included the plant's age and how the plant will be managed.

The plant was given a 40-year license when it was built in the 1980s. It is owned Kansas City Power & Light, Westar Energy Inc., and Kansas Electric Power Cooperative Inc.
