IOLA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Highway Patrol says icy roads have contributed to at least two fatal accidents.

Both happened Monday morning in the southeastern part of the state.

A 34-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was killed around 5:50 a.m. on U.S. 169 about 10 miles south of Iola.

The patrol says Raul Sinckler was thrown from his pickup truck when he lost control on an icy bridge. The truck hit a guardrail, overturned and caught fire. Two passengers were injured.

In Cherokee County, 53-year-old Rhonda Kay Tyree of Scammon died when she lost control of her sport utility vehicle on an icy bridge and swerved into the path of a tractor-trailer. That accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on U.S. 160, just west of Columbia.
