Topeka, KS (WIBW)--We are a couple months away from the 2009 legislation session and those supporting funding for Kansans with disabilities are already laying out their budget priorities.

In a news conference Thursday the Big Tent Coalition used the theme "under construction" for this year's session.

They say calls for budget cuts expose the framework of disability services and draw attention to the need to shore up its infrastructure.

In their agenda they plan to tackle budgetary cuts for essential services for the disabled.

“If you cut these important community based programs what’s going to happen are seniors and people with disabilities will end up in nursing homes and other institutions which cost more to tax payers. It’s not what the people want and it’s going to have a negative social and economic impact,” Rocky Nichols with BTC said.
