Kansas and 11 other states announced an agreement with a mortgage lender that will help nearly 400,000 homeowners facing foreclosure.

Attorney General Steve Six says Countrywide Financial Corporation will provide about $8 billion to relieve the strain of home loans.

The deal will help more than a thousand Kansas borrowers by modifying loans. They will also pay $150 million to the participating states to help those who have already lost their homes.
