Minnesota's Attorney General Lori Swanson won a multi-million dollar lawsuit against a Topeka-based insurance giant. Swanson filed the lawsuit last February against Amer-us Life Insurance Company and American Investors Life Insurance Company now part of Aviva Corporation.

The lawsuit alleged the two companies sold unsuitable long-term deferred annuities to senior citizens and misrepresented or failed to disclose terms of the annuities. The settlement allows Minnesota senior citizens to make refund claims involving about 4,500 policies valuing around 250-million dollars.
