The Topeka AIDS Project will be providing free walk-in HIV testing Wednesday.

It's in recognition of the 6th annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day.

The special day raises awareness of issues concerning HIV and AIDS with the hispanic population in Kansas.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the centers for disease control and prevention recommends persons at high risk for HIV be screened at least annually.

In 2007 a total of 223 HIV and AIDS cases were reported in Kansas.
