Kansas' Republican Registration Edge Smaller
State figures show that Kansas remains a Republican state, but less so than in 2004, the last presidential election year. Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh said 80 percent of voting-age Kansans were registered to vote as of Thursday, a slight rise over 2004.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ State figures show that Kansas remains a
Republican state, but less so than in 2004, the last presidential
election year.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Friday that new figures from
the Kansas secretary of state's office indicate increases in
registered Democrats and in unaffiliated voters statewide.
Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh said 80 percent of voting-age
Kansans were registered to vote as of Thursday, a slight rise over
2004.
On Election Day 2004, 46.2 percent of registered voters in
Kansas were Republican, 26.8 percent were Democrat, and 26.3
percent unaffiliated. On Thursday, the Republican percentage had
dropped to 44.7 percent, Democrats had risen to 27.4 percent, and
unaffiliated had grown to 27.1 percent.
The deadline to register is Oct. 20.
