You might want to keep an eye on your speed when driving along Highway 24.

Starting next Monday, law enforcement officers will be beefing up their radars to catch speeders, especially between Wamego and Manhattan according to the Manhattan Mercury.

Drivers should expect radar traps to be most active during morning and evening rush hours.

Authorities says the goal of this is to help motorists become safer drivers.

I agree with "The Truth" why call it a "TRAP?" The last time I drove, they had these big black and white signs every so often that said what the maximun speed is. They put them on poles, and they even reflect light so we can see them in the nightime! Don, you have a great point as well. The left hand lane is for passing folks!!! Not for Sunday driving 5 miles an hour below the speed limit. You want to drive 50 in a 65, that's fine by me, but get over in the slow lane and show some courtesy would you? As far as talking on the phone while you're trying to concentrate on the road, I recommend a mandatory 10 day driving suspension and immediate, permanent confiscation of the phone if you are caught using the phone and driving at the same time. (There, now I have single handedly solved all of the problems of the world!) :)

If it keeps people safe then I'm all for it, and it means that they won't be bugging me as much. I am from California, I go to school here and I have cali license plates and I am stopped and harassed all the time even when I haven't broke any laws. Its about time they finally decided to pay attention to the ones that have actually done something wrong.

I am so glade they are doing this, And I do find it rude that people are bad mouthing law enforcement. They are just doing there job, And hopefully people will become more aware of how fast they are driving and also maybe this will help cut down on accidents.

LOL On the goal is to make drivers safer.. Give me a break... Goal is to make more money to increase their wages.. Oh and they might want to turn the radar on themselves.. I can't count how many times I'm passed by a State Trooper or local runnin 80 plus. No lights/ no sirens yakin on the cell phone.

Great idea. Long overdue. Next, try Hwy 18 between Manhattan and Fort Riley. Very high speeds and dangerous.

Why would you call this a "trap" if you are speeding, you know what the speed limit is but didnt obey it and get caught, how is that trapping you? The driver is controlling the speed of the vehicle.....not the officer using the radar!
