The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services has awarded grant money to seven community agencies. The grants are aimed at promoting independent living for people with disabilities.

SRS awarded over $100,000 to the communities. Quantitative Use of Independent Living Title VII-B, or QUILT, grantees include the Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy of Topeka, OCCK, Inc. of Salina, Prairie Independent Living Resource Center of Hutchinson, Resource Center for Independent Living of Osage City, Southeast Kansas Independent Living Resource Center of Hays, Three Rivers Inc. of Wamego, and Topeka Independent Living Resource Center.

Projects are funded for a one year period.

other than SRS and those entities that recieved the grants, who knows what Title VIIB or a QUILT program is? I get it, organizations who should have as their mission anyway got 15,000 average amount grants to promote independent living for persons with disabilities. SRS didn't read about the bail out that implies less funding for services next year.... and years to come. I am sure there was a huge need to spend the tax payers dollars in advertising this year... especially to give it to non tax paying entities. Where were the legislative reps when this was being considered as a ... good idea??
