WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A two-day state conference is focusing on how communities can design themselves to promote physical activities.

The Kansas Health Summit in Wichita is sponsored by the Department of Health and Environment, and about 300 people are attending. It started Monday.

Participants are talking about increasing walking trails and bike paths, improving mass transit and making it easier for people to leave their cars in driveways.

As outdoor playtime for children has decreased in recent decades, the rate of childhood obesity has increased.

And Kansas State University associate professor Sid Stevenson, who helped organize the conference, says participants are interested in improving health.
