ARGONIA, Kan. (AP) _ Emergency workers had to rescue five teenagers last night after their raft capsized on a flooded river in southern Kansas.
During the rescue attempt on the Chicaskia River south of Argonia, three Wellington firefighters and a fourth person also fell into the waters churned up by days of heavy rain.
Sumner County Emergency Management Coordinator James Fair says all nine people were pulled out of the water by 12:30 this morning.
Fair says one of the rescuers was injured and taken to a hospital. KAKE-TV reports the 43-year-old civilian male was described to be in ``extremely critical condition.''
Fair says the remaining people appeared in good health although the teens were to stay the night in hospitals for observation.

When are people going to learn that the Kansas River is a dangerous place to be anytime. It's not even safe to walk around there. Wake up kids, your not babies anymore that need to be watched 24/7. You should be smarter then that. And to everybody, their parents are not responsible. They could have been at work or away from home at the time they dug those rafts out. They are old enough to use their brain and should not need a babysitter watching their every move. They should be held responsible if the rescurer does not survive. Stupid Teenagers!!!!!!!!
What were those kids thinking? Oh, lets go white water rafting and then let the City pay for saving us when we almost drown. Unfortunately, someone did die. The families need to pay some type of compensation to the brave man that lost his life trying to save these teenagers.
I saw how flooded that river was on my way home from Ok. yesterday. What were those teens doing? I must agree with Responsible Mom. I hope the man that is in critical condition is going to be okay. I don't feel sorry for the teenagers.
