It's one thing to live a healthy lifestyle for yourself. It's another to also have a healthy impact on the lives of others.

Three Kansans were awarded Wednesday for doing that, earning the designation "Hometown Health Heroes."

The Governor's Council on Fitness recognized the three at its meeting. The recipients were Don "Red Dog" Gardner from Lawrence, Dr. Jack Wortman of Hutchinson, and Kristey Williams, mayor of Augusta.

Each was recognized for having a significant impact or great achievement on their community or in Kansas.
