KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A suburban Kansas City man is sentenced to 15 months in prison for animal cruelty and raising puppies for dogfighting.

Johnson County prosecutors say the case against 32-year-old Reginald Anderson of Olathe is the county's first involving dogfighting. Anderson was convicted in June, and before the trial pleaded guilty to three felony drug charges.

District Judge Stephen Tatum on Tuesday sentenced him on all five counts, saying the evidence showed that Anderson was breeding the dogs for profit and that they were trained for fighting.

Police seized 16 puppies and three adult dogs from Anderson's home. All but three were euthanized.

Anderson apologized, and told Tatum that he had never engaged in dogfighting himself.
