The Superintendent of schools in Lawrence plans to retire at the end of this school year.

Randy Weseman will retire June 30th, 2009.

His decision was announced today by Lawrence Board of Education President Craig Grant.

This is Weseman's ninth year as superintendent of Lawrence Public Schools. He has been with the district for 33 years and has also served as a teacher, coach, and assistant superintendent.

Grant says the school board will discuss launching a national search for Weseman's replacement when it meets in September.
