LINDSBORG, Kan. (AP) - A family is back in their native Kansas to tell a story of survival off the coast of Africa almost 70 years ago.
The Danielson family will be at their home church in Lindsborg Sunday to talk about surviving after the passenger ship Zam Zam was sunk by the Germans in 1941 as it steamed toward South Africa.
Lillian Danielson, her four daughters and two sons planned to join her Lutheran missionary husband, Rev. Elmer Danielson.
When the German captain realized that the vessel was not a British troop ship, he picked the passengers out of the sea. The Danielsons and 200 other Americans were held prisoner aboard another ship until their release more than a month later.
All six Danielson siblings will take part in worship services at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
