A controversial Topeka City Council vote brought out dozens of people to its meeting on Tuesday. And they spoke their mind.

Dozens showed up, and 17 people spoke during public comment, which lasted about two hours.

They were up-in-arms about E-Verify, which would require anyone who contracts with the city to register using their social security number.

Proponents of the system say it would have kept Topeka jobs out of the hands of illegal immigrants, and would provide an extra measure of security.

Opposition said it is invasive, and is another example of the federal government trying to interfere with local businesses.

The vote was 8-to-1. Click the video for reaction from the meeting.

E-Verify Works! E-Verify has been touted by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security as "...one of the nations best and most effective tools for ensuring a legal workforce." And according to the General Accountability Office, "E-Verify is 99.5% effect." The federal government has breeched its Constitutionally required duty under Article IV, Section IV to protect citizens and states from foreign invasion, instead choosing to play politics with the law and mislabeling the invasion (of an estimated 12-20 million armed and unarmed Mexican citizens and another 4-8 million non-Mexicans) as merely unfortunate--ignoring the $300 billion yearly impact on local and state governments and landslide of negative impacts on Americans. We the People need ALL the help We can get combatting this invasion of foreign nationals!

I love the Liberal minds its all about how it makes you feel and not if it is right or wrong. (NOT) We should be helping people getting jobs, I believe that the people we need to support are American Citizens and not Illegal Aliens (criminals). Just as a Police Officer will give you a ticket for speeding (Enforcing the Law). We should expect the our Government (Federal, State & Local) to enforce the laws and protect American Citizens from criminals (illegal Aliens) by cracking down on those people whom believe they can ignore our hiring Laws to fatten their pockets. Keep your Government Officials feet to the fire and make them stop the Illegal invasion of this Country by ending the hiring of all illegal Aliens. www.numbersusa.com and www.fairus.org and http://capwiz.com/proenglish/home/

topeka take a big look at tulsa oklahoma they have the immgration law down there hb 1804 law. and they also raised there sales tax and they are paying 1.8 million to in force there immgration law. there bigggest problem right now is between 25,000 to 35,000 illegals are gone back to mexico. and thats a lot of sales tax paying people gone. and now family members tell me that they don't have money down there to fix the streets and etc. does topeka want that here and think about all the kids doing without there grandparents. where are the americans that say they are taking all the jobs. in tulsa they have jobs that just sit there now since people have went back to mexico. and no americans coming for the jobs. the city of topeka has no money right now to pay there city workers there raises or wages. i know because i work for the city park dept. and i hear about it everyday and i am tired of it. in tulsa they are feeling the pain now and jobs went bye bye.
