Missouri Lawmakers Want Tougher Exotic Animal Laws

ST. LOUIS (AP) - State legislators who have proposed tighter exotic animal laws in the past expect they'll work for reforms in the wake of two tiger attacks this week in Missouri.

State Senator Tom Dempsey of St. Charles and State Representative Mike Sutherland of Warrenton both have tried unsuccessfully to strengthen exotic animal laws in Missouri. They call it unfortunate that two tiger-related tragedies should bring the issue to the forefront.

A 16-year-old intern, Dakoda Ramel (RAM' ehl) was critically injured in a tiger pen Monday at a Branson West attraction.

After a separate tiger attack on Sunday at an animal facility in Warren County, a 26-year-old volunteer, Jacob Barr, had part of his leg amputated.
