The Topeka Fire Department's two primary aerial fire trucks were back in service Wednesday night.

The trucks both had mechanical issues surface Tuesday. The Wichita Fire Department sent two fire firefighters and an aerial truck Wednesday to assist. They headed home Wednesday night.

Topeka Fire Marshal Greg Bailey said repairs were completed on one of the aerial trucks and it was expected to be back in service by 10pm Wednesday night. He says the other primary aerial unit, a newer truck, never was taken off-line. He says it does have a problem with a lift cylinder that the manufacturer will repair next week, but it can still be used in the meantime.

Topeka's backup aerial truck remains out of service. Bailey says it's been towed to Kansas City for analysis.

from previous articals, 15,000 was to be spent to study the maintenance problems. one truck had a bad radiator for quite a while which could have been fixed for a lot less than 15,000. one truck had a hydraulic problem with a lift, and the other truck had "numerous" problems. as I said before, if you dont want to pay for maintenance then you get what you pay for.

The only maintenance related issue was one truck was in process of having some previously scheduled work performed, when the other two suffered mechanical failures. One these was a new $800,000 apparatus.

I guess all it takes is to get it in the news to get things fixed. Ignoring maintenance is a very bad way to save money. also makes you look like an idiot.
