TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Senate Democratic Leader Anthony Hensley are working to defeat an incumbent senator from their party.

The two sent out a fundraising letter earlier this month for Kelly Kultala. She's challenging Sen. Mark Gilstrap for his Kansas City seat in the Aug. 5 primary.

Hensley said he is trying to oust Gilstrap because he considers the senator more of a Republican than Democrat. He said Gilstrap opposed the governor on several key issues.

Gilstrap said he doesn't understand why Sebelius and Hensley oppose him and called the letter hurtful.
