Judge: Westar Must Pay Wittig $1.67 million
Westar must pay its former CEO David Wittig $1.67 million for legal fees generated during his criminal case. The amount is less than what Wittig wanted. Westar says it's reviewing the order.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A Shawnee County judge orders Westar Energy
Inc. to pay former Chief Executive Officer David Wittig $1.67 million for legal fees generated during his ongoing criminal case.

The amount approved Tuesday is $876,000 less than Wittig had sought.

District Court Judge David Bruns said he reduced the amount to reflect what he considered unreasonably high per-hour rates charged by Wittig's Washington, D.C.-based attorneys. He also criticized some of the attorneys for their behavior during Wittig's first trial, which ended in a mistrial.

Westar says it's reviewing the order.

Wittig and former Chief Strategy Officer Douglas Lake were charged with looting the company. A third trial on conspiracy and circumvention charges is scheduled for September.

can someone honestly tell me how is it really that he is out walking the streets at any time, I mean "PRNJE" made a great point if it was me or you, we would never see day light, just one more thing wrong with this system in this state...someone really should do something about it

That judge should be fired barred or whatever it is that gets a judge off from the bench for good!! Should ask the judge what his cut is from the 1.67 million. Why is it that Wittig is walking around and gettting paid for it ( thanks Westar ) but yet Lake is serving time?? If it had been an ordinary person they'd been put away for a looooooooong loooooong time never to be heard from again. Will Wittig buy stock in Westar with that money??? Heck...maybe he'll start his own electic company with low low low rates so everyone will go through him for service and put Westar out of business!!! Then he could buy Westar!! Maybe he's related to FRED PHELPS *LOL* Maybe I'm missing something but it's just not right or AMERICAN *grrrrrrrrrrrrr* Have a nice life folks!!

I agree, here go the rates again, and don't be late on a payment you know they will shut you off....the city sucks and is going getting worse
