TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission is expected to seek a 60-day extension to complete background checks
on those who win contracts to manage four state-owned and -operated casinos.

Steve Martino, the commission's executive director, said Tuesday that more time is needed to complete background checks than the 10 days allowed by law. The commission can seek an extension from Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who has granted similar requests.

A review board will select the managers for casinos in Cherokee and Sumner counties in August, and for Wyandotte and Ford counties
in September.
