WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ An 86-year-old southern Kansas man has died, four days after he was pinned under his tractor for 23 hours.

Authorities say Paul Elder's leg was crushed and he suffered severe burns in the mishap Saturday. He was grading the driveway at his Mulvane home when his John Deere tractor overturned on top of him.

His calls for help were not heard because of noise from the tractor's idling motor.

Emergency responders jacked up the tractor and pulled Elder from underneath.

Elder was airlifted to the Via Christi Saint Francis burn unit in critical condition. He died Tuesday.
