Topeka Police Corporal Mitch Campbell was injured in a police car accident when his patrol car collided with another vehicle at 6:30PM at 17th & MacVicar.

The squad car was traveling west on 17th street when it collided with a northbound vehicle on MacVicar.

Police say that his injuries are minor and are likely from the airbag deployment. They say he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the other vehicle is 26-year-old Joshua Herr from Topeka. He too was injured in the crash, police say his injures were minor and to his head.

Both victims were treated at the scene for their injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and police say they will be looking into what color the light was at the intersection.

whos ever fault it was we will probably never know plus alot of police in this town that i seen never ever drive the speed limit or rarely stop at stop signs even if they r the police they should have to obey the law just like we do

I, for one, am very grateful for the police department. I feel they put their lifes on the line everyday for little pay. They are human and do make mistakes. I have had my share of problems with the police in the past, but that was due to MY mistakes. I really appreciate You TPD and I want to say thanks for all the crimes that you help to end. God Bless you all and your families also.

"You mean "respond in a hurry" like when a suspect is already in custody by 3 officers on the scene"...no, they mean respond in a hurry like the first three officers in your scenario did so that they could get your suspect into custody in the first place. your house is broken into in the middle of the night, your family is in danger, do you only want 1 or 2 cops showing up, or do you want a whole squadron of them coming to your rescue? that's what i thought.

If the officers turn their lights and siren on just to pass through a stop sign or red light, it is because they have to make a call in a hurry. They don't want to advertise that they are coming. There is always a good reason when they do this.

You mean "respond in a hurry" like when a suspect is already in custody by 3 officers on the scene and 6 other police officers show up to stand around? or "respond in a hurry" so that they can pull up next to another police car and sit and yap to each other for an hour?

A am reasonably sure that at 6:30 pm there is more than one witness that seen who did what. Not bashing the police but they rarely make a complete stop at the stop sign in front of my house. Of course a lot of others (civilians) don't either. Oh well, it will never change.

okay.. here it goes-first of all im not saying there arent cops out there that do it..however.. there are some calls that the cops have to respond to in a hurry but cant have their sirens be heard due to what type of call it is..so until you know..please keep your mouth shut.

So because a police officer was involved, you assume that #1 It was his fault and #2 There will be a cover up. Wow - what objective thinking!

I'm sure the TPD will somehow find it to be the other drivers fault, even though I as well as others in this city have seen the police violate traffic signals in the past by sounding their sirens to pass through an intersection to turn them off after they are past, just so they don't have to stop. I really would not be surprised if this isn't the same scenario.
