BOSTON (AP) _ Safety officials in Massachusetts have ordered
operators of an amusement park ride made in Wichita to stop using
the equipment in their state until an inspector can examine it.

The move by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety follows an accident on a Yo-Yo ride last week in California that injured 23 people.

Metal arms extend from a rotating hub on the ride, which is built by Chance Rides Manufacturing. Chairs are attached to the end of each arm by chains, and swing outward as the hub rotates and picks up speed.

In the California accident, the machine's hub disrupted its normal rotation. That caused the chairs to collide with one another and the chains and passengers to become tangled and drag on the ground.

A company official says it stands by the safety of its ride.
