HAYS, Kan. (AP) _ Smith Center jumps out to a 28-7 halftime lead
and cruises to its fifth-straight Class 2-1A state football
championship with a 48-19 win over previously unbeaten Olpe.
The Redmen have won 67 straight games to break the state record,
and it's the third-longest winning streak in the nation.
Joe Osburn got Smith Center (13-0) off to a fast start with a
75-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game, then had a
71-yard touchdown run in the next possession. He finished with 200
yards on 10 carries before leaving with an ankle injury.
Marshall McCall replaced him and had 138 yards on six carries
with three touchdowns.
Olpe (13-1) quarterback Matt Redeker passed for 303 yards with
two touchdowns, including one on the last play of the game, and two
interceptions.
