6A state boy’s basketball championship to air statewide
Wichita, Kan. – The Kansas high school 6A boy’s basketball championship will air at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 on Cox Cable, Kansas Now channel 22. The 6A game will air live from White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.
Mark Ewing will be the play-by-play commentator with Mike Henson as the color commentator for the game. Ewing is a well known sports director in Topeka and provides commentary for Wichita State University, high school sports, the Kansas Shrine Bowl and Miss Kansas Pageant. In his 24 year broadcast career, Ewing has worked on sports staffs in Wichita, Green Bay, Joplin and Oberlin-McCook.
Mike Henson began his coach career at McPherson High School and led the Bullpups through 12 successful seasons. While at McPherson, Henson achieved a 250-34 record, qualified for the state playoffs 10 years, won four 5A state titles and led two undefeated teams in 1990 and 1994. In 1996, Henson left McPherson to coach at the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin Germany. He returned to McPherson in 1997 and then accepted the head coaching position at Topeka High School in 2000. Henson retired in 2007, but continues to teach and work with track athletes at Topeka High.
