KS Voices: Don't Let the Library Embrace Censorship
I don’t want other people to decide what either my or my child reads. That’s called censorship. And you cannot do just a little bit of censoring.

Don't Let the Library Embrace Censorship

I don’t want other people to decide what either my or my child reads.

That’s called censorship. And you cannot do just a little bit of censoring.

There are folks who want the Topeka-Shawnee County Public Library trustees to review and categorize books by content.

With all respect to members of that board, I don’t want them to take up that choice. I don’t want them taking from me either my responsibility or authority over what books my son can check out or limiting what I check out based on content.

Libraries should focus on making a wide range of information and ideas available. Parents should get to choose, not the library, what our children read.

The library trustees should reject ANY censorship attempts.

Agree or disagree. I want to know what you think. Write me here at the station, or at jim.ogle@wibw.com, or leave a comment on the Kansas Voices section of WIBW.com
