Topeka will elect a Mayor and a majority of the city council in municipal elections this year. With the filing deadline of Noon, January 27th, we are just a few short days away.

To help candidates who are considering making the plunge, WIBW is joining the Topeka Shawnee County Library, the Community Resource Council, the League of Women Voters, Bartlett & West and the Greater Topeka Chamber in sponsoring a "Candidate School" Saturday, January 17th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Library.

Possible candidates will hear about the paperwork necessary to run for office, the laws involved in the process, working with the media and many more topics.

If you are a candidate, a current office holder, or just thinking about running, we hope you will attend. We need more candidates, not fewer. Take the plunge, run for office, and join us at Candidate School this week!

I want to know what you think. Write me at jim.ogle@wibw.com or go to the "Kansas Voices" section of wibw.com.
