OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ The man charged in the June slaying of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith pleaded not guilty Wednesday to separate charges of having sex with a 14-year-old runaway.
Edwin Hall, 26, is charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties for allegedly having sex with the girl in 2004. The girl is now 17.
Hall's not guilty plea came after a judge determined there was enough evidence for a trial.
A hearing is set for October 19th. The trial date has not been scheduled.
Hall already faces capital murder, kidnapping and rape charges in the Smith slaying. The Olathe man also has pleaded not guilty in that case.
Smith, of Overland Park, was abducted June 2 from a suburban Kansas City Target parking lot. Her body was found four days later in a park about 20 miles away.

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ The lawyer for Edwin Hall says he would plead not guilty if charged with having sex with a 14-year-old runaway three years ago.
His attorney Paul D. Cramm says if the judge determines there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial, Hall would "absolutely'' enter the not guilty plea.
The 26-year-old Hall already faces separate capital murder charges in the death of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith.
Hall of Olathe is charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties for allegedly having sexual intercourse with the girl in July 2004. The girl is expected to testify at his preliminary hearing this afternoon.
Two Johnson County deputies brought the girl to Kansas from Arizona, where she is serving time in a juvenile detention facility for an unrelated incident. She is now 17.
