A Pulitzer Prize-winning author calls the theory of intelligent design "absolutely ridiculous.''

Edward O. Wilson made the comments Wednesday at William Jewell College in Liberty, one day after the Kansas State Board of Education approved new science standards skeptical of evolution.

The retired Harvard University biology professor is considered one of the nation's foremost experts on evolution. He says intelligent design is not science, there's no way to test it.

Intelligent design argues that some features of the natural world are best explained as resulting from some form of intelligence.

Though what is taught in Kansas ultimately rests with school districts, some educators fear pressure will increase to teach more about creationism or intelligent design.
