FORT RILEY, Kan. (AP) _ The government has rested in its case against a Fort Riley soldier charged with fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend outside a Manhattan bar.

Specialist Latoya Pitts is charged with killing Private Antonio Ortiz last October while the two left Silverado's and got into a violent confrontation. Ortiz was with another woman at the time.

Pitts testified Wednesday about her relationship with Ortiz. She tearfully told the court that she loved and cared about Ortiz and would never want to hurt him.

Pitts also recounted Ortiz's threats and confrontations during their six-month relationship.

But government lawyers noted that those events were never reported to authorities and accused Pitts of plotting to start a fight with Ortiz the night he died.

Closing arguments are expected Thursday.
