TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Former Westar Energy CEO David Wittig has sued the utility over its refusal to pay his legal fees.
In his lawsuit, Wittig claims the Topeka-based Westar is ignoring a special master's decision last year saying the company should pay him almost 2.5 million dollars in fees.
Westar has paid fees for Wittig's Kansas City-based attorneys but says his Washington, D.C.-based lawyer is charging unreasonable amounts.
It is disputing the special master's decision and a Shawnee County District judge has yet to rule on it.
Wittig has been tried twice on charges he tried to loot the company but they have either ended in mistrial or the convictions have been thrown out.
He's scheduled for a third trial in September.

Consuela-He was not convicted of anything with regard to Westar. All the charges were overturned so Westar has to pay his fees whether you or they like it or not. He did not loot anything from the company which is why they cannot convict him. You can't put someone in jail just because he's rich. Ruined 600 peoples careers? How? Do you really think that being brought up on bogus charges, being put wrongfully in jail for over a year, being dragged through the media along with your family for over 6 years, being unemployable is being above the rules? You are sorely mistaken. And by the way, Westar has said that any payment to Wittig/Lake does not effect ratepayers so quit your whining. If you all know so much and are so sure he's guilty, then he will have to pay his own legal fees when it is over anyway.

You have got to be kidding. The man got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Pay up!! Why should the costumers have to pay for his ingnoance. You know that is where the money to pay his lawyer would come from.
