The Wichita City Council chose not to single out pit bulls in an amended ordinance targeting aggressive dogs.
In the end, the council made one significant change to city laws. To be considered dangerous, a dog no longer has to bite someone - it can be considered dangerous by aggressive behavior.
The city can force all dogs labeled "dangerous" to be sterilized and micro chipped. Any dog that is caught running loose can be labeled dangerous.
If a dog only bites once, the city can euthanize it.
Some council members had pushed for strict guidelines solely on pit bulls. The city says 30% of all bites in Wichita are by pit bulls.
