Investigators think a malfunctioning generator led to an explosion inside a building at the Love Box factory in north Wichita Tuesday morning. The ensuing three-alarm fire shut down city streets, but was contained within an hour.
It began with an explosion around 7:04am. Everyone in the factory was evacuated - no injuries are reported. Eyewitnesses told KAKE News that smoke was visible from I-235.
Fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading - it was contained to the power plant building. The plant reopened later that day. Initial damage estimates are around $2 million.
Police blocked off traffic in the area at 37th St/Ohio and 37th St/Broadway.
According to the company's website, they make corrugated cardboard, boxes and palettes.
