6-6-07 - In it's ongoing mission to curb underage drinking, the Derby Police Department is making take-home breathalyzer tests available to the public.

Police Chief Jay Reyes says the alcohol test strips are available to parents who suspect their teen may have consumed an alcoholic beverage. It's one way the police department says it's partnering with parents to fight underage drinking.

The test strips were given out by the City of Derby at the Derby Days Business Fair last Saturday. Tests can also be purchased at the Derby Police Department for $2.00 each.

Alco Screen makes the single-use strips. They indicate the presence of alcohol in the bloodstream. It only takes two minutes to get results. The test strips can be used for many situations, but they are primarily for parents who may have concerns about underage drinking issues.

If you have additional questions, you can call the Derby Police Department at 788-1557.
