Blown out tires and spin-outs weren't enough for one man to stop as he lead Reno County Sheriff deputies on a high-speed chase last night.

At about 8 p.m., authorities responded to a call of a possibly armed and agitated man at Cheney Reservoir, said Reno County Sheriff Capt. Wayne Baughman.

After attempting sheriff deputies attempted to talk to the 38-year-old, Baughman said the man got into his pickup truck and drove off, sometimes at speeds of 70 mph. And the suspect's determination forced law enforcement to call for backup in surrounding communities.

Twice during the chase, sheriff deputies deployed stop sticks in the road. The man ran over both sets and blew out all four tires on the truck. But he kept driving.

That forced sheriff deputies to use tactical maneuvers to try to stop the truck. Baughman said deputies tried to push the truck twice to spin it out. He said both attempts worked, but the driver was able to speed off again.

Nearly one hour after the police started in Haven, the crash finally came to an end. A sheriff deputy rammed the truck with his police cruiser, forcing the truck to stop. Afterwards, sheriff deputies peacefully arrested the suspect.

Baughman said the driver and no sheriff deputies were hurt. The truck suffered extensive damage, the patrol cruiser that rammed the truck had to be towed and another cruiser suffered minor damage.

they tried the pit twice, spun the truck, but couldnt stop it that way. possibly the truck driver knew how to drive better than those trying to stop him.
