Park City Mayor Dee Stuart says she has approached Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer about the possibility of expanding city bus service to Wichita's suburbs. Brewer says he doesn't have any formal comment on the idea, but says he's willing to explore the possibility.

Meanwhile, we decided to hit the streets to find out what people in those communities thought of the idea.

"I think it could be a great idea," says Goddard resident Mike Campbell. "With gas prices and everything going up, there's people that would buy a bus ticket that would save them a lot."

"Most people in Park City go in different directions," says Park City resident Clinton Lee. "It could be a great benefit or it could be a waste of money."

The mayor of Goddard, Marcey Gregory, was enthusiastic when asked about the subject.

"I just read online that MTA use is up in the city limits," Gregory says. "So I think it's getting to the point where people are having to find alternatives. And yes, I think if it could be worked out to have bus service to the suburbs, people would use it."

When we asked the same drivers if they would actually ride the bus if it went to their city, their reactions were a bit different.

"If I couldn't drive my car or it was broken down, I wouldn't hesitate at all," says Campbell.

"It's a habit that has to be broken," says Lee. "Vehicles give you independence. You can run to the cleaners or run to the store, but if you go on public transportation, you have to plan out the day more."

Mayor Gregory of Goddard, meanwhile, says bus service could not only benefit the people of her city, but even farther out.

"Even the people beyond us at Garden Plain or Cheney. It would be very practical for them if they could get to our city and take the bus from there," says Gregory.

THE WICHITA PUBLIC BUS SYSTEM RUNS ON ITS OWN ESTABLISHED PRIORITEIS. THE SYSTEM HERE IS HOSED !! I REALISE WICHITA IS NOT SAY K.C.. HOWEVER THE WAY TRANSFERS AND ROUTES ARE LAID OUT. ONE ONE CAN THERE FROM HERE. SYSTEM EXPANSION TO ANY PLACE BEYOND MAJOR MALLS AND TURN AROUND POINTS IS NEEDED. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CATCH A BUS THAT RUNS EAST ON HARRY SAY FROM A BUS I CAUGHT THAT RUNS DOWN SOUTH SENECA. THE SYSTEM IS NOT USER FRIENDLY. PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT SAY I GET ON BUS ON HARRY. I HAVE TO RIDE TO THE TRANSFER CENTER TO BOARD A BUS THAT GOES DOWN SOUTH OLIVER. THEN HAVE TO WALK A HALF MILE TO MY DESTINATION. I TRIED IT. I WORK AT SPIRIT. I CAUGHT THE BUS AT DILLON'S AT HARRY AND EDGEMORE. FROM HARRY AND EDGEMORE TO OLIVER AND 31ST IS ABOUT 3.5 MILES. I RODE TO THE TRANSFER CENTER. CAUGHT A DIFFERENT BUS, AND GOT OFF AT OLIVER AND 31ST. I DROVE IT IN MY CAR. I TRAVELED NEARLY 18 MILES TO GET TO A POINT ABOUT 3.5 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE I STARTED. AND I HAD TO WALK A HALF MILE.

I ahm all for it but I think we need to improve routes in town first. Schedule is somewhat limited not enough routes. Long delays because of few connector buses few north south routes.

I know many young people and older people who would benefit if the Wichita bus system came here to Mulvane and transported them to Wichita or other surrounding suburbs. I think its about time we had this, way past due. It would also be beneficial with the possibility of Mulvanes Casino and with all the jobs that would become available.
