Park City Mayor Dee Stuart says she has approached Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer about the possibility of expanding city bus service to Wichita's suburbs. Brewer says he doesn't have any formal comment on the idea, but says he's willing to explore the possibility.
Meanwhile, we decided to hit the streets to find out what people in those communities thought of the idea.
"I think it could be a great idea," says Goddard resident Mike Campbell. "With gas prices and everything going up, there's people that would buy a bus ticket that would save them a lot."
"Most people in Park City go in different directions," says Park City resident Clinton Lee. "It could be a great benefit or it could be a waste of money."
The mayor of Goddard, Marcey Gregory, was enthusiastic when asked about the subject.
"I just read online that MTA use is up in the city limits," Gregory says. "So I think it's getting to the point where people are having to find alternatives. And yes, I think if it could be worked out to have bus service to the suburbs, people would use it."
When we asked the same drivers if they would actually ride the bus if it went to their city, their reactions were a bit different.
"If I couldn't drive my car or it was broken down, I wouldn't hesitate at all," says Campbell.
"It's a habit that has to be broken," says Lee. "Vehicles give you independence. You can run to the cleaners or run to the store, but if you go on public transportation, you have to plan out the day more."
Mayor Gregory of Goddard, meanwhile, says bus service could not only benefit the people of her city, but even farther out.
"Even the people beyond us at Garden Plain or Cheney. It would be very practical for them if they could get to our city and take the bus from there," says Gregory.
