An explosion and fire south of the city of Lakin in Western Kansas has severely damaged an asphalt plant.

Sources tell KAKE News that the fire broke out at Apac, which is on land owned by Klotz Sand about two miles south of Lakin.

Oil was being unloaded from a tanker into the plant when a hose came loose and started spraying. Some of the oil reportedly hit a burner and ignited, causing at least two large explosions.

One person was transported with minor injuries to a hospital. It is estimated that about 5,000 gallons of oil burned up.
