A public forum with City Manager candidate Patrick Salerno is scheduled for 5:00 p-m Monday, May 19, in the Wichita City Council chambers, 455 N. Main.

The 30 minute session will include comments by Salerno, followed by written questions contributed by the audience. Steve Martens, chairman of the Citizens Committee that has handled the search process for a new city manager, will introduce Salerno and assist with the questioning process. Dale Goter, City of Wichita government relations manager, will serve as moderator.

The session will also be aired live on the Cox Communications cable channel 7 and rebroadcast Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 pm.

The public forum will be one of several interviews for Salerno during his visit to Wichita on Monday and Tuesday. Salerno has been recommended as a candidate by the 17-member Citizens Committee. He served as city manager of Sunrise, Fla., from 1990 to 2008.

Previously, he served as county manager of Chatham County, Ga., and assistant county manager of Volusia County, Fla. He holds a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Salerno's visit is part of an on-going process to fill the City Manager position. The city has engaged Jim Mercer of The Mercer Group, a national search consultant company, to assist in the search.

I would think the city would be very cautious after their last poor judgment hiring of someone else's cast off. Isn't there any qualificated employees within the system locally? At least they should know all of their spending habits and abilities...or disabilities.
