A man apparently trying to beat a train across the tracks in Wichita, is now in the hospital this morning.

At about 9 p.m., witnesses and train crew members report Billy Hammond, 54, was trying to cross the tracks when they thought he was going to pull back, said Wichita Police Sgt. Dave Armstrong.

He said the train crew saw Hammond and slowed down, thinking Hammond would move out of the way. Instead, Hammond bolted out in front of the train and was hit, Armstrong said.

Friends told KAKE News last night he underwent surgery at a Wichita hospital last night. He remains in serious condition this morning.

No one was on the tracks but him. People get used to doing this a hundred times and nothing ever happens, then that 101st time whack! I hope he recovers okay to learn a valuable lesson, it could have been worse.
