A tragic Mother's Day accident in a Northwest Wichita driveway has claimed the life of a 2-year old boy. Police say it happened just after 4:15 Sunday afternoon.

A family member of the boy was backing down the driveway in the 1100 block of North West Street and did not know the toddler was behind the SUV.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

I am prayng for this family, we all should. We should pray instead of blame. The bible teaches us that it is not our place to judge. I can only imagine the pain and suffering this family and thier friends are going through. I have 2 young children, and they attend daycare downt he street and I pray and cry wach time I drive past. I will continue to pray everyday. God Bless

People Have alot of guts to say watch your kids, no one is perfect. I am a close friend to the family and the family was very close and she loved all her kids dearly, IT WAS AN ACCIEDENT... Just think how the family member feels for doing that. Try to be in there shoes. He was a very sweet little boy, if you can't tell by the pics on here.God bless

I don't understand how this happened. We make our kids stand on the porch too. Embrace Jesus during your suffering and he will bring you peace. Our family still prays for the little boy that got ran over at the McDonalds over here. May God bless your family with peace.

This makes me so sad for this family, and people should not assume that they "let their kids run loose". On special occasions with a lot of family around there are many distractions, and normal routines are disrupted. Relatives of small children are often used to moving at a faster pace when coming and going, and so are sometimes not as cautious as those who understand how quickly toddlers can change locations. It is simply a tragic accident, though I hope that when people get together they will all help to look out for the little ones in the family, not just place the burden on the mom and dad who can sometimes have a false sense of security that relatives will be looking out for the child too. (I've gone to the bathroom before and found my 2 year old had "learned" to open the front door when I was in there. The weight a mom carries as she tries to keep her children safe at all times (without becoming paranoid) can feel very heavy at times. I grieve for and will pray for this family.

that was one rude comment, "watch your kids", they are in a time of mourning and you have to say it's their fault, kids don't have tracking devices, he was two and you can't see behind a SUV. people need to stop blaming the parents for everything, and i'm not saying it's the kids fault either. there are things called accidents.

thats why i demand that my children and any other children playing in my yard are on the porch or in the house while anyone leaves or is on their way. If my kids even try to not mind me with this they are in trouble big time. I feel for his parents and family.
