As the price of gas continues to climb, many think automobile dealerships would see an obvious shift in the what type of vehicles people are buying. However, according to Davis-Moore's Dawson Grimsley, that's not necessarily the case.

Unleaded gas is soaring above $3.50 a gallon, and those gas guzzling pick up's and SUV's which have dominated roads are falling out of favor in many states across the US, but not here in Kansas. Grimsley says people are just adjusting their driving habits.

"They're getting organized and running their errands at one time. Instead of going back and forth, they're getting it done at once because when gas is $3.50 a gallon you can really spend a lot of money when you're in your car all day," says Grimsley.

Hybrids and smaller cars do have the best fuel efficiency, but Grimsley says many bigger SUV's and trucks have active fuel controls which can drop their V8 engine to a V4 and gain better mileage.

Whether you drive a fuel efficient hybrid or gas guzzling SUV, the question on everyone's mind is... When will we stop suffering from sticker shock from the outrageous prices at the pump?

so whydont the Teacher politicians that want us to conserve put taxes on big gas guzzelers instead of raising gas prices for all of us?

We just traded our gas guzzler for a smaller car. Regardless of planning trips, Etc, we would not have been able to keep the tank filled this month. We conserve by nature and the only reason we had a big vehicle to begin with was because of the large amount og kids we hauled around for several years. Those years are done and so is our need for that vehicle. Just in the nick of time, I say!

That's just it - we're NOT going to see "sticker shock" end. Get used to this, and stop thinking you have to buy the largest vehicle on the road to keep your family safe! Or don't. It's your budget...Unfortunately, I have to share the environment with your selfishness.

Everyone keeps saying that they are hurting their pockets at the pump because of the pickups and SUV's. well in my opinion gas is such an issue because as the article says people run back and forth all day instead of running all the errands at once. My om has a 99 Chevrolet Silverado C1500 that gets 18 miles a gallon. She starts at 7 am takes me to school then goes back home gets my sister and takes her to school. Then stays at work until she has to pick me up and goes gets my sister then we go home. Many people dont plan their stops. If your in the far south end of town, plan your errands in a path. start south and work your way back north until you get home. Or run your errands in a circle. It will save you a WHOLE LOT Of GAS..and MONEY!! dont blame the vehicles. They only use the gas you make them use.

so the "teachers" that want the gas prices to increase to "teach" us to conserve are going to increase gas prices more? I thought it was just GREEDY oil companies and politicians.
