Residents in Greenwood County are cleaning up after severe storms left a path of destruction Thursday night.

Officials say storms cut a swath of damage about 15 miles long from the community of Thrall to south of Lamont in Northeast Greenwood County. Storms damaged a number of homes and farms. Some report winds blowing out their windows, as well as barns and numerous outbuildings damaged or destroyed.

A tornado warning was in effect at the time of the storm, but officials are blaming Thursday night's damage on strong straight-line winds.

Dick Elder, Meteorologist in charge of the Wichita National Weather Service Office, say the winds were likely in excess of 100 miles-per-hour.

Yes, a 100 mph straight line wind, about a half mile wide. That happens all of the time. It was a tornado.

I am very glad we didnt get hit. The whole day, I kept telling myself "I dont feel good about tonight" but luckily our town escaped and no one was injured.
